The short answer
EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) is calculated as P·r·(1+r)ⁿ ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ−1), where P is the loan amount, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and n is the number of months. For example, a ₹10,00,000 loan at 9% for 15 years is an EMI of about ₹10,143, with roughly ₹8.26 lakh paid in interest over the full term.

Frequently asked questions
How is EMI calculated?+
EMI = P·r·(1+r)ⁿ / ((1+r)ⁿ−1), where P is the principal, r is the monthly interest rate, and n is the number of monthly installments. This calculator does the math for you instantly.
Does a lower tenure reduce total interest?+
Yes. A shorter tenure means a higher monthly EMI but significantly less total interest paid, because the principal is cleared faster. Try changing the tenure to compare.
