How to Build a Conference or Event Website
The short answer
An event website needs, in order: the event name, date, city and one-line pitch on the first screen with a ticket button; the agenda with session times and tracks; speaker cards with names, photos and talk titles; ticket tiers with prices and what each includes; and venue details with directions. Launch a simple version early — date and city with a waitlist — then add the agenda and speakers as they confirm.
Event websites have a deadline no other site has: the event happens whether the site is ready or not. The winning strategy is launching a thin version the day tickets go on sale and layering in speakers and agenda as they confirm — not waiting for a 'complete' site.
What goes on the page, in what order?
- Hero: event name, dates, city, one-line promise, ticket CTA
- Why attend: three or four concrete takeaways, not adjectives
- Speakers: photo, name, company, talk title — add as confirmed
- Agenda: times, tracks, session titles; a simple table beats an interactive widget
- Tickets: tiers, prices with GST noted, early-bird deadlines
- Venue: address, map link, parking and transit notes
- FAQ: refunds, recordings, food, invoice/GST receipts for corporate attendees
How do you sell tickets?
Do not build ticketing yourself. Link your buy buttons to a ticketing platform or a Razorpay payment page that supports UPI — Indian attendees expect it — and keep the website purely informational. This keeps the site static, fast and immune to checkout bugs during your launch spike.
The Signal event template packs a countdown hero, speaker grid, agenda and ticket tiers into one HTML file — you can genuinely announce in the morning and be live by evening on free hosting. Because it is a static file, it also shrugs off the traffic spike that hits the moment your early-bird tweet goes out. If you run recurring events and want a repeatable design process rather than a one-off, the Premium Website Masterclass covers the full design-to-launch workflow you can reuse for every edition.
