Should you buy a UI kit or design from scratch?
The short answer
Buy a UI kit when speed matters more than visual differentiation — internal tools, MVPs, admin dashboards — and design from scratch when the interface itself is your product's identity. A good kit saves 3–6 weeks on a dashboard; a brand-defining consumer app usually can't start from one.
The honest math
A dashboard designed from scratch takes a competent designer 4–8 weeks to reach the coverage a mature kit has on day one: tables, empty states, settings, billing, onboarding. At freelance rates that's several lakh rupees against a few thousand for a kit.
When scratch is right
- The UI is the differentiator (consumer social, creative tools).
- You have a design system already — a kit would fight it.
- Brand demands something no kit's structure can express.
How to pick a kit that won't trap you
Check three things: real auto-layout (resize a card — does it flow?), tokens over hard-coded styles, and an update policy. A kit with those properties, like the templates in our Interactive Template Bundle, restyles into your brand in days instead of locking you into someone else's.
